Help Sustain The WOW Hall By Becoming A Member

In 2005 the CCPA kicked off its first major Capital Improvements Campaign, dubbed MORE WOW NOW, to ensure its long-term viability as a performing arts center. The campaign’s first goal was raise funds to buy the vacant property behind the building. The back lot was purchased from the City of Eugene in 2006 for a total cost of $55,000.

The next step is to make improvements to the Hall itself to reduce sound impact on the neighborhood. These improvements include installation of a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system which will allow us to keep the doors of the Hall closed during shows and make the Hall more comfortable for patrons. Also, we plan on adding insulation to the attic area between the ceiling and roof of the Hall, repairing the windows and improving the window coverings.

Reducing our noise impact is urgent because of the multifamily residential development being constructed immediately east of the WOW Hall. The developer, Eugene nonprofit Metro Affordable Housing, has committed $50,000 for sound attenuation improvements to the Hall.

Eventually the CCPA plans to construct an addition adjacent to the north (back) and east sides of the Hall to house a green room for entertainers, improved bathrooms for entertainers and the public, and storage for the Hall. This addition will be constructed in a manner that preserves the historical integrity of the WOW Hall.

YOU CAN HELP!

The CCPA is largely self-funded. In fiscal year 2006-07, $391,054 of its $433,808 annual budget was in earned income (ticket sales, rentals, concessions, poster service & newsletter advertising), $6,100 in grants (Lane Arts Council/City of Eugene), and $36,654 from memberships, donations and in kind support.

Even in the best years, the CCPA has been challenged to meet the rising costs of building maintenance and preservation, equipment, staff and overhead. The support of private individuals and businesses is now more critical than ever.

Dues paying members are an essential part of the organization, both as a major source of support for the W.O.W. Hall’s activities and to maintain its commitment to democratic, community control. CCPA members elect and may serve on the Board of Directors and standing committees and receive the monthly newsletter, WOW Hall Notes, in the mail (also available online at www.wowhall.org)

To become a member, write a check to the Community Center for the Performing Arts. If you want your donation to be restricted to the capital improvements campaign, memo the check “More WOW Now!”

Each December the CCPA hosts its famous Membership Party. This event features entertainment by a variety of artists and delicious food and beverages donated by local businesses (over 80 last year!). The Membership Party is free for members and is the organization’s way of saying, “thanks for your support!”
