WEST AFRICAN DRUM: All-Levels 5 Week Course

Have you ever wanted to take an African drum class, but felt just a little bit intimidated?  Well now is your chance to learn about the vibrant poly-rhythms of Guinea, West Africa in a non-threatening atmosphere that is fun, encouraging, and inspirational for beginning and experienced drummers alike!

Join Alseny Yansane, dynamic teacher and fourteen year performing The class will artist with world renowned Ballets Africains of Guinea, as he offers a drum class that will teach all the basics for learning the West African poly-rhythmic orchestra including Djembe accompaniment parts, musical signals and arrangements, solo phrases and bass drum and bell parts. Andrea and Papa Yansane will be assisting in the class to help Alseny demonstrate how the different drum parts line up to best model how they fit together musically. 

The class is on Mondays, October 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm in the basement of the WOW Hall.  Cost is $75 pre-paid for 7.5 hours of instruction, or $60 for students w/ valid ID (pre-paid).]

You can also join Alseny Yansane of West African Cultural Arts Institute for a fabulously fun African Dance class that welcomes all dancers. This Saturday class from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm is an excellent way to kick off your weekend with an encouraging community vibe and heart pounding and sweat producing dance moves all to the powerful beat of live drumming!

This class is conveniently located in downtown Eugene in the beautiful Community Center for the Performing Arts (WOW Hall) on the corner of 8th and Lincoln Street.  Students will enjoy the spacious dance floor of this historic building (which has 1600 square feet of dance space and floating wooden floors).  This one and a half hour dance class is a perfect blend of exercise, culture, community, and self-expression!  Drop-ins are welcome @ $15 or $12 for students w/ valid photo ID.
