Moonalice and Garcia Birthday Band

June 18, 2017 - 8:00pm

On Sunday, June 18, the Community Center for the Performing Arts and KLCC’s Dead Air proudly welcome Moonalice and the Garcia Birthday Band back to the WOW Hall.

Moonalice is celebrating their ten-year anniversary.  The band played their first show as Moonalice in May, 2007.  Moonalice played their first show at the WOW Hall on December 2, 2008 (in support of the New Riders of the Purple Sage).  However, longtime residents will remember most of the cast from their previous incarnation as The Flying Other Brothers Band, which played here on a regular basis beginning in 2002.

Describing themselves as a psychedelic, roots-rock band, Moonalice consists of seasoned musicians mixing a variety of genres with extended musical improvisations that evoke a sense of adventure and exploration. Everyone is a part of the experience as the music inspires dancing and other acts of self-expression. Every show has an original art poster created by a well-known artist memorializing that event and given to all attendees… each poster has its own Moonalice legend.  All concerts are broadcasted live in HD and available in archive shortly after their set.

Moonalice plays mostly original material mixed with several covers, and during their extended freeform jams the band moves as one, drawing from magical sounds honed from years of experience playing with various major acts.  Their single "It's 4:20 Somewhere" has been downloaded over five million times.

Just released: 420 Gathering of the Tribe by Jay Blakesberg and Alex Fischer – a short film about the Moonalice posters and poster artists: http://www.moonalice.com/song/its-420-somewhere.  Their extensive tour schedule and videos of every Moonalice show can be seen at moonalice.com and every show poster with legends can be viewed at moonaliceposters.com.

GARCIA BIRTHDAY BAND

Garcia Birthday Band (GBB), based in Portland, is a group of veteran musicians interpreting and celebrating the vast repertoire of the late Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead.  But this isn't a "tribute band!"  Drawing on years of individual and shared experience, these players are able to craft and transform these tunes into something fresh and original.  Solid chops, tight arrangements and fine harmonies all contribute to the band's musical travels and explorations of possibly the greatest and most diverse songbooks of all time.

With musicians hailing from the likes of New Riders of the Purple Sage (NRPS), David Nelson Band, Kingfish, Cubensis, Buds of May, Ike Willis Band, Brothers Jam and LOOS3, this band is certain to provide high musical adventure!  Always sure to raise the roof and keep the dance floor rocking, hoppin' and shakin', the band's quickly growing "GBB Family” fan base finds the community spirit and kind vibes contagious.

Music-lovers with a wide variety of tastes enjoy this band's extensive playlist which includes classics from Bob Dylan, Smokey Robinson, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Cliff, Traffic, Dr. John, Merle Haggard, The Meters, Neville Brothers, Buddy Holly, Otis Redding, Warren Zevon, Rev. Gary Davis, Bruce Cockburn, and Peter Tosh, to name a few.

If your musical tastes range from rock-and-roll, country, R&B, blues, bluegrass, folk, or Americana, you will dig this band. No need to be a Deadhead.
