On Friday, February 15, the Community Center for the Performing Arts welcomes back to the WOW Hall LDW performing Talking Heads “Stop Making Sense” Tour.  Eugene's own Soul Vibrator will open the show.

Talking Heads was always an innovator when he came in the rise of electronic music in the 1970s. However, after ending their 16 years of new-wave/avant-funk music someone had to continue building upon David Byrne’s innovational musical ideas.

From Portland, Oregon, LDW emerged from a common love for of 1970s band, Talking Heads. Inspired by 1984 concert film, Stop Making Sense, the band started with a 7-piece lineup that was inspired by that movie and time. “There was so much funkiness, movement, and excitement to the music in that movie and we just knew it would get people excited and feel fresh” says Lawrence Orleck, co-founder and singer in the band.

Due to the band’s exuberant interpretations of the legendary Talking Heads, original music, improvisation, choreography and the random experiences they deliver at every one of their shows, fans continue to increase. In a matter of two years, LDW was playing to sold out shows all over the west coast and found themselves with the question: “What’s next?”

Released in February of 2018, LDW’s first volume of their 3-part series of EP’s called Movement. The band states that the name originated from “the last three years we have been enthralled with the excitement and motion of our fans.” They created this series because of their focus on including their heart and soul into every performance. The group was so inspired by playing David Byrne’s music for three years that they found themselves in the studio writing this EP and it just naturally fit into our set.” Says Orleck. This EP opens previously locked creative doors that only David Byrne could open. With songs such as “Clear the Vines” and “No Lines” demonstrates the true passion for music.

“Stop Making Sense” performances

In Stop Making Sense, Talking Heads stage slowly builds to a full performance as the players and gear ebb onto the stage – until a mid-show climax with Byrne in a giant suit. The concept starts with ostensibly no stage setup and out comes David Byrne with a beatbox and acoustic. LDW agreed that it would be an incredible adventure to put together, periodically, the actual Stop Making Sense performance.

The band is performing Stop Making Sense, Talking Heads, and original material in premier venues around the country. This tour will differ from LDW’s previous tours by including newer original works, different musical approaches on Talking Heads pieces and a tribute to David Byrne.  What won’t change is the constant energy, passion and fun LDW incorporates into all their performances.

LDW performed at the WOW Hall on September 28, 2018 to a full house with an excited audience. The band also performed Talking Heads NYE at The Star Theater w/special guest Beardz II Men in Portland.
